Availability: In Stock

Product Name: D-(+)-Neopterin
CAS No.: 2009-64-5
Molecular Formula: C₉H₁₁N₅O₄
Molecular Weight: 253.2
Appearance: White to yellow powder
Purity (HPLC): >99.0%
Solubility: Practically insoluble in water (approx. 0.005 g/100 g water at 22 °C). Concentrated solutions can be prepared using 0.05 M NaOH. Ultrasonication can be used to improve dissolution.

Biochemical Functions

Neopterin has two isomers (D- and L-neopterin). We supply only D-neopterin – the natural form. Neopterin concentration determination is a sensitive method for monitoring cellular immune system activity due to the close relationship between T-lymphocyte stimulation, interferon release, and neopterin synthesis.

Neopterin levels are elevated in patients with certain infections, some tumors, autoimmune diseases, and those undergoing transplantation rejection.

Dihydroneopterin triphosphate is part of the tetrahydrobiopterin synthesis pathway, an important cofactor in the human body.

Analytical Methods

HPLC Conditions:

  • Column: Waters Spherisorb S5 ODS1

  • Eluent: 10 mM Na₂HPO₄, pH 6

  • Flow rate: 1 mL/min

  • Wavelength: 254 nm

  • Sample: 1 mg/mL in 0.05 N NaOH

TLC Conditions:

  • Stationary phase: Cellulose

  • Eluent: Water

  • Result: Single blue fluorescent spot at 366 nm

Stability

Neopterin is light-sensitive. Contains half a mole of water.

Storage

Store powder dry in a tightly closed amber bottle at -20 °C. Neopterin can be transported without dry ice. In a tightly closed vial wrapped in aluminum foil, it is stable at ambient temperature for several months.

Applications

  • Important standard for analytical work

  • Blood donor screening for various diseases
