Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) is one of the key industrial monomers for the production of polyurethanes and related materials. It is widely used in the production of rigid and flexible polyurethane foams, adhesives, sealants and coatings.

Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (diphenylmethane diisocyanate, MDI) is an aromatic diisocyanate, of which three possible isomers are used: 2,2'-MDI, 2,4'-MDI and 4,4'-MDI. The 4,4'-isomer is the most widely used. This isomer is also known as pure MDI (monomeric MDI, MMDI). Synonyms: 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane, methylene bis-(4-phenylisocyanate).
MDI together with polyol is a raw material for the production of polyurethanes.
