Properties

Tungsten disulfide (WS₂) as a solid lubricant possesses remarkable physical properties. In the past, petroleum-based oils and greases were most commonly used as lubricants.

In recent years, with the development of industrial technology, demand for new solid lubricants has increased due to higher machine performance, rotational speeds, sliding speeds, loads, and use in harsh conditions such as high temperature and vacuum. Maintaining a clean atmosphere and protecting the environment are also very important.

Key advantages over molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂):

  • Oxidation temperature approximately 100 °C higher than MoS₂

  • Excellent thermal stability and extreme pressure properties

  • Even lower coefficient of friction

Additional properties:

  • Resistant to high surface pressure – coefficient of friction tends to decrease as load increases

  • High-temperature lubrication up to 450 °C – helps prevent sintering or seizing

  • More wear-resistant – durability tests show WS₂ is at least three times more durable than MoS₂

  • Very pure and environmentally friendly – reduces industrial waste

  • Excellent energy-saving effect – lowers energy consumption through lower friction coefficient, extends component life

  • Lubrication range: -273 °C to 450 °C (in air)

  • Inert, inorganic, non-toxic, non-corrosive

  • Compatible with most oils and greases

  • Surface deposits are reduced by half compared to graphite, MoS₂, and Teflon
