Applications

Widely used as an additive for carbon brushes in the automotive industry and mechanical engineering. Improves lubrication and reduces friction when added to:

• Lubricating oils

• Greases

• Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

• Nylon

• Paraffin

• Stearic acid

Also used as:

• Release agent for non-ferrous metals

• Forging die lubricants (effectively extends service life and improves working conditions)

• Run-in performance improver

• Surface damage prevention

• Cold welding prevention agent

• Thread connection performance enhancer

Can be mixed with volatile solvents and sprayed onto metal surfaces or added to engineering plastics to manufacture lubricating components.

Properties

Molybdenum disulfide is an excellent solid lubricant that can operate in vacuum or air environments for extended periods. It has a relatively low coefficient of friction and can provide long-term lubrication at air temperatures below 350 °C. When used as a carbon brush additive, it can effectively extend brush service life by more than 15–20%.
