GKL-5831 Matting Agent for ABS / PETG / PLA – Matte Surface Effect for Plastics
Product Overview
GKL-5831 is a specialized matting agent designed to impart a uniform matte (low‑gloss) surface finish to plastic products made from ABS, PETG, and PLA. It is supplied as a white powder with excellent thermal stability and compatibility with these polymer matrices, ensuring consistent performance during extrusion and molding processes.
Key Technical Data
Particle Size (d50): 5 µm
Loss on Heating: ≤1%
Recommended Dosage: 0.6–1.0% by weight
Melting Point: 120°C
Oil Absorption: 30–60 mL/100 g
Refractive Index: 1.58
Thermal Stability: Up to 320°C
Advantages of GKL-5831
Minimal impact on transparency – preserves clarity in transparent or translucent applications, unlike many silica‑based matting agents that cause haze.
Non‑hygroscopic – does not absorb moisture, avoiding processing issues such as bubbles or surface defects.
Very low oil absorption – prevents thickening of the melt, enabling smooth extrusion and easy processing.
Excellent compatibility – disperses uniformly in ABS, PETG, and PLA without separation or surface blooming, ensuring consistent matte effect without adverse effects on mechanical properties.
Applications
Extruded sheets and films (e.g., for packaging, signage).
Injection‑molded parts (e.g., consumer goods, automotive interior components).
3D printing filaments (PLA‑based).
Any plastic article requiring a controlled low‑gloss matte finish.
Processing Recommendations
Add GKL-5831 directly to the polymer compound during dry blending or at the hopper. A dosage of 0.6–1.0% typically yields a satisfactory matte effect. For optimal dispersion, use a twin‑screw extruder or high‑intensity mixer. Higher loadings may be used for stronger matting but should be tested for mechanical properties.
Packaging and Storage
Packaging: 20 kg bags (or custom packaging upon request).
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep containers sealed.
Shelf life: 24 months under recommended conditions.
Quality Assurance
Each batch is characterized for particle size distribution, moisture content, and matting efficiency to ensure consistent product performance.
