Overview
2-Octyl cyanoacrylate is a specially formulated medical-grade adhesive monomer designed for use in surgical hemostasis and wound closure. Mechanism of Action
Upon application to tissue, the cyanoacrylate monomer undergoes anionic polymerization initiated by the presence of water or hydroxide ions on the tissue surface. The reaction is rapid (curing within seconds) and mildly exothermic, but well within safe limits for clinical use. The resulting polymer film adheres firmly to the tissue, providing mechanical support, sealing wounds, and controlling bleeding.
