Overview
Epitalon (also known as Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG). It was originally designed based on the active component of the bovine pineal gland extract epithalamin. This peptide has been extensively studied for its geroprotective, neuroendocrine, and anti-aging properties.
Mechanism of Action
Epitalon acts primarily through up-regulation of telomerase activity, the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length. By increasing telomerase expression, it promotes cellular longevity and genomic stability. Additionally, Epitalon regulates pineal gland function, stimulates melatonin synthesis, and exhibits antioxidant, neuroprotective, and antimutagenic effects. It also modulates immune function and reduces inflammation by regulating cytokines.
